FEATURING the art of CALLIGRAPHY
Of Thick and Thin Brush Strokes
The first time I saw words and art combined, my mind went haywire, my heart pumped faster. I never thought those two can be seen together in a way that it would be appealing to all. I roamed my eyes on that piece of work. I looked at my hand, and I just imagined myself creating something like that. It was impossible, yes, but I tried to venture in the field of calligraphy. “Literature is the art of discovering something extraordinary about ordinary people and saying with ordinary words something extraordinary.”
- Boris Pasternak
Literature mirrors life. It reflects its ups and downs. It makes people realize great things through words. It is an art form in which humans can find expression of their own experiences. Through the choice of words it paints a picture in the reader’s mind. It makes the human person visualize and sense the story from the words used. Literature has many forms. It has several ways of capturing the mind and heart or even the soul of a reader. Literature is an enticing piece of artwork. Its enigmatic attributes contribute to the emotions of the reader.
Like an artwork, it is a masterpiece that is carefully thought and built. It is one of a kind. Someone who makes literature is creative. It is also a powerful tool to make someone feel something. It lets the person express more of what is at the back of its mind. Literature also exhibits the traits of an art. A literary piece can put one into a whole new universe and that is what art does to people.

UNEXPECTED LOVE IN THE MOST UNEXPECTED PLACE
“First time lasts for a lifetime.” Everyone of us has our own experience of what we called “first times”. Usually, first times always remind us on how we began our wonderful journeys in life. No matter how good or bad our first times was, I do believe that it is truly unforgettable. It is and will always be treasured and cherished in our hearts. As we take ourselves into a higher heights, we went into a place that really captivated our eyes, blown our minds and touched our hearts. We’ve seen different creations made by love, passion and dedication.
An art that was crafted from their artistic minds and genuine hearts. In my fifteen years of existence, I admit that arts was never been close to my heart. I really hate creating drawings, paintings, sketches, doodles and anything that involves different illustrations. That’s why since I was a child, I didn’t appreciate arts that much because it is and will never be my passion. I remember my teacher when I was in 10th grade who gave back to me my painting because it’s not worthy of a good grade. That time, I was very down and disappointed and never stop to question myself why I was not given a hand that could sketch thousands of beautiful artworks.
But my first experience in National Museum slowly changed my mindset on what is the true value and impact of arts in our lives. As I’ve seen such mind-boggling paintings, I really felt like the art was really created for the people in the society. They didn’t create such amazing artworks just for themselves, but more importantly they made it for the satisfaction and happiness of the people. I felt like those living arts serve as path towards reminiscing everything that happened before and moreover, reminding us different values on how to truly love our culture, tradition and so forth. I felt like there’s a voice that whispers behind my back saying that arts is not just a creation but it is a form of expression. Through these pictures that blown me away, all of my hatred in arts slowly turned into appreciations.
In short, I fell in love with a place that I didn’t expect to love. It was not just my first time to go in that kind of place but it was also my first time to appreciate things I thought will never have a space in my heart. This first time was all worth it because I’ve got to bond with people that were truly sketched by love and experiences.
With this experience, those artworks teach me on how to love our own crafts. Loving our crafts is not about self appreciation, it’s about self expression. It made me realize that whenever you put your heart in everything that you do, you’ll be able to succeed with such amazing colours because a passionate heart matters more than artistic and sharper minds. It is truly proven that we could find love in the most unexpected places.
I fell in love with the place so much that made me love myself even more.

The night you braided my hair was the night I thought I could love you. Your hands were soothing, and they were like massaging my head — making my worries gone. For a second, I thought you made my heart flutter. It was like a bomb of unknown feelings suddenly occuring in my veins.
But then I remembered how you see me as a sister, and how I see you as a brother and how the people see us as ‘art partners’. We’re just—will always be—just 'art partners’, making art together. But, I will never be the girl behind your art. You may always make art with me, but you will never make art for me.
Maybe I just thought that I could potentially love you because you were my vision of a dream guy. And maybe I just romanticized our friendship into something that isn’t really worth the trouble.
Thanks a lot I didn’t go too far.
